envelio –
Smart grids start with smart planning
Our vision
Achieving a power supply solely from renewable energy sources might seem like a long-term goal. However, in the not-so-distant future, millions of new solar panels, wind turbines, and charging stations will need to be integrated into our existing grids; the number of interconnection requests is already rising what feels like every day. The need for process acceleration, infrastructure transformation, and rapid expansion comes on top of business as usual. Currently, distribution grid operators are not prepared to handle the scale and complexity of these changes efficiently.
This is exactly where we want to make our contribution. We strive to empower utilities not just to adapt to the future but to actively shape it. Our vision isn’t just a strategic decision; it’s what drives us every day and guides our interactions. By pioneering innovative solutions and fostering sustainable practices, we aim to help transform the energy landscape.
Our story
The idea for envelio arose during our work in the field of energy system research at the Institute of High Voltage Technology at the RWTH Aachen. All five founders wrote their dissertations on in the field of “intelligent distribution grids”.
Throughout many research projects with power utilities, something became clear: There is a lack of a scalable software platform for managing future grids, with the need to integrate more and more renewable energy sources and charging stations for electric vehicles.
Using the dissertation algorithms as a first basis, we developed the Intelligent Grid Platform and founded the start-up envelio — the smart grid company of the future.
Since then, our customer base has been steadily growing and becoming increasingly international. We are present in 10 EU countries, with our software covering nearly 50% or more of the grid in four of them.
More than 120 people now work at envelio with the common goal of driving forward the energy transition as quickly as possible.
