First pilot project in Sweden with Vattenfall

Vattenfall’s strategy is to enable a fossil-free life within one generation. envelio supports Vattenfall Eldistribution in meeting this challenge with the Intelligent Grid Platform (IGP). The joint pilot project was launched on October 1, 2020.

With the increase of renewable energy sources and the electrification of transport and industry, higher demands are placed on electricity grids. A complete grid transparency with validated data and the automation of work processes is becoming more and more necessary. The first phase of the project will focus on data integration and enhanced grid data quality supported by the grid connection applications. Available grid data from formerly isolated data sources (GIS, meters, ERP etc.) will be integrated via customized interfaces. All grid data will be bundled into a complete digital grid model (digital twin) with power flow calculations for the entire year. Supported by innovative algorithms and machine learning, the grid data is continuously quality checked and validated.

Once the implementation phase is completed, Vattenfall’s grid planners will also evaluate a range of grid planning applications including Connection Request and Grid Study. With the Connection Request application, the entire technical process of connection requests (data transfer and validation, identification of potential grid coupling points, technical evaluation and cost estimation) is completely automated. The application Grid Study defines comprehensive scenarios for future supply tasks, e.g. increasing penetration rates for new loads and generators, and evaluates the impact on the entire grid. Manual processes, which typically take hours or days, are automated by IGP and shortened to a few minutes. With the same result.
