Cologne/Stockholm 15.07.2026 – envelio, Europe’s leading smart grid software provider, is collaborating with Tekniska verken on data-driven, forward-looking grid planning. During an initial Proof of Concept (PoC), the Swedish utility company and grid operator is using envelio’s intelligent software applications to improve grid transparency, streamline scenario-based analyses, and make targeted investment decisions. Following a successful PoC, a full rollout is planned for September 2026.

Jesper Hagbom, Head of Distribution, at Tekniska verken, explains: “Through our collaboration with envelio, we aim to enhance grid transparency, streamline scenario-based analyses, and facilitate informed investment decisions. This would allow us to optimize the use of existing grid capacity and enables us to manage the rapid electrification with greater precision and lower costs. We are looking forward to the outcomes of the PoC with envelio, as a successful implementation would enable more efficient analysis of whether and how renewable energy sources and new loads can be connected to the grid.”

Dr. Simon Koopmann, CEO at envelio, adds: “We are pleased to be working closely with Tekniska verken during this important phase, supporting the company in preparing for future grid planning, together making it possible for Tekniska verken to stay ahead of upcoming developments with future-proof software solutions. The collaboration represents an important step in our expansion across Europe, strengthening our presence in the Nordics and bringing our platform closer to grid operators throughout the continent.“

Forward-looking and targeted investment decisions

The goal of the PoC and planned rollout is to accurately assess grid demand and enable forwardlooking, targeted investment decisions. This would allow the Swedish grid operator to proactively prevent grid bottlenecks through improved analysis, supporting well-informed and balanced investment decisions.

Improved analytics optimize grid utilization

A digital twin of the grid constitutes the foundation for future-proof operations. envelio combines this with time-series data to enable accurate, practical, and consistent load-flow analyses. This gives Tekniska verken deeper insight into grid processes. The software reliably determines available capacities and support Tekniska verken in effectively integrating decentralized energy consumers and producers, such as PV systems, heatpumps and charging stations, into the grid.

Simplified scenario analyses for modern grid planning

Additionally, the collaboration between envelio and Tekniska Verken aims to streamline the grid planning process. Digital solutions simplify the evaluation and comparison of future scenarios, both individually and in combination. They also enable the analysis of the expected impact of various developments and measures on the grid.

Various IGP apps are being tested as part of the PoC. These include: Grid Study, Grid Planning, Connection Request, and Time Series Control Center.

About the Intelligent Grid Platform (IGP)

envelio's Intelligent Grid Platform (IGP) is a comprehensive software solution for the efficient planning and operational management of power grids, providing a digital twin that processes, corrects and visualizes existing data. As the need for grid investment and complexity increases amid a high volume of connections, the platform’s holistic approach ensures that grid data and planning drive effective investments, enhance grid reliability, and enable scalable processes. Thanks to the modular architecture of the award-winning software, it adapts to DSOs of all sizes, making it a unique solution to the challenges of decentralized energy supply and distribution grid expansion. envelio's IGP empowers grid operators to optimize and automate processes, laying the foundation for a rapid and decentralized global energy transition.

About envelio:

envelio was founded in 2017 as a spin-off from RWTH Aachen University and develops software for grid operators. With its proprietary Intelligent Grid Platform (IGP), the company gives grid operators transparent insights into actual grid conditions. The digital twin helps utilities automate and digitalize processes, identify grid vulnerabilities, manage grid connections more efficiently, and plan distribution grid expansion based on actual needs. Headquartered in Cologne, Germany, envelio provides the foundation for flexible smart grids and a rapid, decentralized energy transition.
